Shanghai Expo - UK Pavillion

Plant river

100% digital vegetation. Mush-rooms in the distance.

[...] Troika devised a narrative concept consisting of 3 immersive and multilayered installations, GREEN CITY, OPEN CITY and LIVING CITY, inviting the visitors to experience the pavilion through all their senses.
Troika, 2010

I was asked by Troika to help developing some of the Living City (aka, Future Plants) designs, as well as to produce 18 press quality visuals of the three installations designed for the UK's Shanghai Expo pavillion.

Lightrain Heatherwick's Seed Cathedral Green City Green City

The pavillion models were nearly entirely recreated from NURBS data provided by Troika and Heatherwick studio. The raw polygon data obtained was simplified and cleaned up to allow for accurate texturing and shorter rendering times. All the plants, real and imaginary ones, pictured in the shots were created from scratch as high quality models, in order to retain realism in close up shots.
